Product Description

One treatment of Cydectin 10% Long Acting Cattle injection helps worm control throughout the grazing season, based on a set stocking system. In cattle weighing from 100 to 500 kg bodyweight, CYDECTIN 10% LA is indicated for the treatment and prevention of mixed infestations by mature and immature gastro-intestinal nematodes (stomach & gut worms), respiratory nematodes (lung worms) and certain arthropod parasites (Warbles, Lice and Mange Mites).

CYDECTIN 10% LA has a persistent action and protects cattle for a certain duration against infection or re-infection. A single injection at turnout gives up to 150 days persistency on stomach worms and 120 days persistency against lungworm and 133 days persistency against sucking lice.

Dosage
0.5 ml/50 kg bodyweight, equivalent to 1.0 mg moxidectin/kg bodyweight, given by a single subcutaneous injection in the ear using an 18 gauge, 25-40 mm hypodermic needle. Determine cattle weight to ensure correct dose rate is used. To prevent a possible anaphylactic type reaction, do not inject the product intravenously.

Administration
The 50 ml vial stoppers must not be broached more than 20 times. Shake vigorously before use. Use automatic syringe equipment for the 200 ml vial.

The injection should be given subcutaneously in the loose tissues on the dorsal surface of the ear, just distal to the distal edge of the auricular cartilage. The dorsal (outer) surface of the ear should first be cleansed with antiseptic and allowed to briefly air dry. Palpate the edge of the auricular cartilage closest to the head, on the dorsal (hairy) surface of the ear. From this landmark, taking care to avoid blood vessels (artery, vein), the needle should be inserted subcutaneously starting at a point approximately 3 to 3.5 cm distal to this edge (away from the head) and directed towards the base of the ear and the needle advanced to the hub. At this point, gently aspirate the syringe to confirm that the needle is not in a blood vessel. Upon injection, the resulting depot should reside just distal to the edge of the auricular cartilage. Following administration, the needle is withdrawn from the skin as pressure is applied for several seconds with the thumb at the point of insertion.

Cydectin’s active ingredient Moxidectin is completely different to Avermectins due to potency & persistency. Moxidectin is absorbed into the blood and starts killing internal and external parasites. The lipophilic nature of Moxidectin means a high percentage of the chemical will be absorbed by the body fat and released back into the bloodstream over several weeks and continue to kill the parasites over a long period of time.

Benefits of Cydectin LA include:
New technology in Cydectin 10% LA means moxidectin spreads throughout the body extremely efficiently and the high absorbtion by the body fat gives long persistency.
The moxidectin in Cydectin LA is 10g/100ml - by comparison Cydectin Cattle Pour On is 0.5g/100ml.
Long persistency means pasture contamination is reduced.
Easier to administer than a bolus; a single injection given subcutaneously at the base of the ear at a rate of 1ml per 100kg liveweight. Cheaper than boluses and can be used in cattle from 100kg - 500kg.
